About Dr. Porter
A Richardson native with deep Texas roots, Dr. John R. Porter has spent his career doing what he believes is one of the most meaningful things a physician can do — caring for children from the very beginning of life.
Dr. Porter earned his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Colorado State University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to receive his Medical Degree from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where his commitment to academic excellence continued to define his path.
He completed his pediatric residency at the renowned Children's Medical Center of Dallas, where he also served as Chief Resident with a focused interest in infectious diseases. That early training instilled in him a thorough, detail-oriented approach to care — one that has shaped his practice ever since.

Care & Experience
For more than 30 years, Dr. Porter has cared for infants, children, and adolescents — from birth up to age 18 — across every stage of growth and development. His practice covers the full spectrum of pediatric medicine, including newborn care, well-child visits, developmental screenings, and immunizations. He is equally attentive to acute illnesses and chronic conditions, ensuring that each patient receives the thoughtful, continuous care they deserve.
Dr. Porter also provides sports physicals and adolescent medicine services, understanding that the needs of a teenager are as unique and important as those of a newborn. For families navigating concerns outside of office hours, the practice offers an after-hours nurse advice line — a reflection of Dr. Porter's belief that support shouldn't stop at five o'clock.
Preventative care is at the heart of his philosophy. He believes that the best health outcomes begin not in moments of illness, but in the steady, trusting relationships built over years of partnership with families.
Care Philosophy
For Dr. Porter, pediatrics has never been simply a profession — it is a calling. He cherishes the time he spends with each family, listening carefully, building trust, and honoring the privilege of being part of a child's story from the very first days of life. He believes that when a family feels genuinely known by their doctor, everyone benefits — especially the child.
Beyond the Office
When he steps away from the practice, Dr. Porter can often be found outdoors — fishing, traveling, and making memories with his wife, Cindy, their daughters, and their grandchildren.
